A spear phishing attack targets a specific employee within an organization by sending a spoofed email which falsely represents a senior officer of the business. The email will issue instructions, such as approving payments or initiating a wire transfer to the bank account of the fraudster.
Smishing is a type of phishing attack that uses fraudulent text messages to individuals with the intent of getting the victim to reveal personal and confidential information. The text message appear to be coming from a trusted source. Victims are asked to provide log-in credentials, click on a malicious link, or contact the fraudster by email or phone. Many smishing attacks will indicate there is a problem with your account or unusual activity and poses some level of urgency.
Short for “voice phishing” involves scammers using phone calls to deceive individuals with the purpose of extracting sensitive information. Fraudsters pose as a trustworthy business such as a bank or governmental agency. The fraudster manipulates the victim into revealing confidential information or sign-in credentials.
Mail fraud letters appear to be legitimate, but the promises are false. Often these letters will ask for personal information or request money to get something valuable after you send the money.
