Concerning the Recent Wawa Breach

As was recently reported, Wawa discovered malware on their payment processing servers on December 10, 2019 and fixed the issue by December 12, 2019. Customer payment card information used at all Wawa locations from March 4, 2019 through December 12, 2019 may have been compromised by this malware.

Our Embassy fraud protection team is closely monitoring the situation and the potential impact on all of our customers. At this time, Wawa has confirmed that the following information may have been compromised by this breach:

• Card numbers
• Expiration dates
• Cardholder names on payment cards

PIN and CVV numbers were not impacted. Wawa also reports that ATM machines were not affected and believes the malware no longer poses a threat to their customers. To help address the impact on their customers, Wawa is providing one year of identity theft protection and credit monitoring at no charge. To inquire about the credit monitoring services Wawa is offering, call the dedicated Experian response phone line at 1-844-386-9559. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm EST and Saturday-Sunday from 11:00 am through 8:00 pm EST. (Experian offices will be closed on December 24th, 25th, 31st, and January 1st and 20th.)

Please note that while all of our customer debit and credit card transactions are routinely monitored by our Fraud Prevention Service for suspicious activity, we strongly encourage you to proactively review the status of your accounts on an ongoing basis as well. As an added layer of security, we also recommend that all of our customers download and use our free Card Valet app. The Card Valet app provides you with the ability to enhance your card’s security with a number of different functions including the ability to turn your card on and off and receive transaction alerts.
